PROBLEM

Creating more capacity without extending shifts

Faced with the challenge of meeting increased production demands, Volution Group needed to boost productivity across its 14 injection moulding machines without the costly option of adding weekend shifts.

With machines already operating overnight unsupervised, simply extending hours wasn’t feasible – more capacity had to be unlocked within existing operations.

SOLUTION

More productivity by combining RS Production and LEAN practices

Volution turned to RS Production to tackle the challenge of meeting production targets. The technical implementation was coupled with a change in approach to using production facts and gathering machine operator feedback on loss reasons. 

The team continuously ensures all production stops are appropriately coded, commented on if needed, and discussed in daily production meetings. 

Armed with this detailed insight, the Volution manufacturing team systematically identifies inefficiencies, optimises production planning, and reduces losses and production waste. 

The combination of RS Production OEE and working with LEAN production means that improvement tasks can now be assigned to make improvements operational quickly.

RESULTS

15% OEE increase sets new efficiency standards

The implementation of RS Production yielded remarkable outcomes for Volution. In addition to stabilising the availability of its injection moulding machines, the team has achieved a significant 15% increase in OEE factory-wide. 

This allows Volution Group to meet its higher production targets without additional shifts and supports its sustainability goals by optimising resource use and reducing operational waste.

The insights gained from real-time data and operator feedback have been pivotal, transforming potential downtime into productive uptime and setting a new standard for efficiency in their manufacturing processes.

The data also acted as a basis for their biggest new machine investment.
