Wood processing
Derome Group is one of Sweden's largest family-owned timber industries with roots dating back to 1946. Wood is the common thread in the business, where the forest becomes timber products, houses, building elements and environmentally friendly bioenergy.
At Derome's facility in Kinnared there is both a sawmill and a pellet plant. The sawmill produces timber products for the Swedish, British and American markets and has an annual capacity of 160 000 m³. The pellet plant produces approximately 65 000 tons of pellets per year.
The problem
Different systems made it difficult to create a unified view of production
Derome Timber has long been at the forefront of using digital tools to support production. At the same time, different factories used different solutions for production monitoring and decision-making. This made it difficult to create a clear overall picture at group level, and Derome was ready to take the next step in its digitalization.
Therefore, Derome decided to introduce a group-wide standard for OEE. The goal was to create a stable foundation for continued growth, reduce manual reporting work, and build a decision-making process based on clear and easy-to-understand facts.
The solution
A shared platform provided better governance across the entire group
After evaluating the market, Derome saw that Good Solutions platform was the right choice to support the group’s growth goals and the need for a common solution across the entire business.
With the help of the platform, teams can make fact-based decisions locally at each production line, while management automatically gains access to group-wide key figures.
Every morning, for example, an overview report is sent automatically to everyone who contributes to keeping production running smoothly, from production teams and plant managers to the CEO.
The maintenance departments also use production data from Good Solutions to plan maintenance based on how production is actually running. In this way, the solution helps the production teams in the various factories create more flow and stability in their daily work.
The result
10% higher OEE in just six months provided more capacity
Derome's factory in Kinnared increased its OEE by 10% in just six months by working as a team and basing decisions on facts from the Good Solutions platform.
“It is a fantastic result for a sawmill with an annual capacity of 160,000 m³ to be able to deliver more than 250 extra truckloads of finished goods every year thanks to our improved efficiency,” says Elias Brag.
Kinnared's factory development is now progressing rapidly. The facility is doubling its capacity and building a completely new sawmill.
