Kavli is a leading Norwegian food company founded in 1893 by Olav Kavli, known for its innovative products – including Primula, the world's first spreadable cheese. Today, Kavli operates in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the United Kingdom, with a wide range of popular food items such as mustard, cheese, mayonnaise, dressings, sauces, and much more.
All profits from Kavli go to the Kavli Foundation, which supports charitable projects in mental health, environmental sustainability, and children's welfare.
Through the collaboration in implementing the Good Solutions platform, Kavli has gained real-time production visibility, significantly reduced long-standing bottlenecks, and provided operators with user-friendly tools to drive improvement initiatives close to production.
The problem
Hidden efficiency losses in production
Before the Good Solutions platform was implemented, Kavli faced major challenges due to a lack of data on speeds and downtime.
“We had a clear difference between planned and actual production rates,” says Nils Hunyadi, Production Administrator at Kavli in Eslöv. “Without reliable data, it took a long time to improve anything.”
Machines often stopped, changeovers were slow, and the causes were difficult to trace.
An operator fills in: “Before Good Solutions, it was frustrating not to know why we had stoppages. It felt like we were just waiting for maintenance without understanding what was actually most important.”
The solution
Real-time data creates focus and drives improvement
When Good Solutions' platform was introduced at the end of 2022, Kavli was able to identify and create understanding around the problems in production.
“Good Solutions has completely changed how we view and solve problems,” says an operator. “The system is simple, and we quickly got into it. It feels like we are given support and responsibility, not monitoring.”
The platform enables faster root cause analysis and targeted improvements.
“Now we can prioritise the right actions because we know where to focus,” says Nils. “We solve real problems with facts, not guesses.”
The operators quickly learned to use the platform due to its user-friendly interface.
A team leader adds: “Our morning meetings are much more effective. We see yesterday's numbers right away and talk about what we can do better. Everyone is more involved and focused.”
The result
Engaged operators create strong results. 5 000 tons of increased production with the same resources.
Since the introduction of Good Solutions platform, Kavli has increased its OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), reduced MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and made changeovers faster and more precise.
The total downtime has decreased significantly, both planned and unplanned. In 2024 alone, Kavli produced 5 000 tons more than in 2023 – without more shifts or new machines.
"Our data is now reliable and accurate," says Nils. "We clearly see our potential and make better decisions."
Operators feel more engaged thanks to clearer goals and greater opportunity to influence.
"It's motivating to see how our input leads to concrete improvements," says an operator.
Moving forward, Kavli plans to use the platform even more, especially for maintenance and quality.
"With Good Solutions platform, we are not only improving productivity – we empower the team to make better decisions faster, which reduces production losses and enhances quality. And in the end, we contribute even more to our mission at Kavli: To make the world a little softer." Nils concludes.
