Orkla Nidar was founded in 1912, has around 250 employees and produces a wide range of sweets and confectionery for several Nordic brands. The factory operates around the clock and continuously invests in R&D, HSEQ, innovation and efficiency.
Since 2016, Orkla Nidar has used Good Solutions' platform in its daily improvement work. By making decisions based on facts from production, the factory has increased its OEE by 10%.
The problem
Manual processes slowed improvement efforts
Previously, Orkla Nidar worked with a classic paper-and-pencil method for production checks and recording loss causes. Afterwards, the team transferred the information to Excel.
The way of working took a lot of time and made it difficult to create a reliable loss analysis. Many losses were recorded as “Other,” because the operators could not always remember the exact cause afterwards.
The factory also lacked historical data. That made it difficult to track developments over time and carry out relevant trend analyses.
When Orkla Nidar started using the platform in 2016, these problems disappeared.

The solution
Digital production monitoring created structure and better decision support
Orkla Nidar uses Good Solutions' platform throughout the production day.
The system automatically logs production stoppages and the operators categorize the losses. This gives the production team access to high-quality production data.
On all production lines, the teams use standardized reports in their morning meetings. There, they review the largest losses from the previous day and follow up on planned actions.
Production management also holds weekly meetings where they analyze production data on a weekly basis, prioritize improvement work, and plan actions based on the largest losses at the quarterly and annual levels.

The result
Fact-based improvement work increased the factory's OEE by 10%
Production manager Kerstin Leistad says: ”By consistently basing our improvement work on facts from Good Solutions' platform, we have increased the entire factory's OEE by 10%. In individual production lines, even more.”
She continues:
”In addition, we have been able to move from large improvement projects to smaller, more agile improvements that target specific issues.”
Orkla Nidar continues to invest in digitalisation to stay at the forefront, especially in the brand-new production line now under construction. The factory is increasingly using visualisations and is gradually moving to fully digital meetings across the organisation. This enables teams to make better decisions faster.
